Future-proof shipping by joining forces
Moderation Bebeka client & stakeholder day with André Kuipers and Klaas Dijkhoff
Operating competitively in an environment that is changing significantly, whilst at the same time making your operation more sustainable in every way. In short: a smaller footprint, but still a healthy bottom line. How do you make the right choices today that will enable you to continue operating within an unpredictable future. While in the meantime you need to comply with all kinds of new rules. From January 1, 2024, emission allowances must be paid and in the near future ships will be labeled based on fuel efficiency.
Standing stronger by joining forces is the reason for existance of a cooperative and this is reflected in Bebeka’s track record. This was also the central theme during the Bebeka client & stakeholder day, where 150 members of this active cooperative got together to discuss future-proof shipping. Looking out on Rotterdam’s lifeline “the Maas”, we discussed how to remain future-proof and relevant. By continuing to develop joint expertise inspired by experienced experts from other disciplines.
How do you prepare for a journey that few have ever made? And how do you deal with change? Under the guise of “meet the experts”, André Kuipers and Klaas Dijkhoff took us along into the world of the unknown. With board members Arend Jan Rozema, Dirk Pol and Dirk Jan van Leeuwen we discussed the priorities of the cooperative, relevant market trends and developments and how Bebeka creates prospects for action for and with the members.
Together with director Harry Vasse we concluded the day by looking at the future and by setting up working groups that will proceed the work. In short: to be continued!
About Bebeka
Bebeka is the first cooperative in the area of global fuel procurement. Non-profit, transparent and reliable. Bebeka supplies the energy that our sector desperately needs. They have been doing this for 60 years. Tirelessly. Boundlessly. Independently. That is the cooperative’s strength.
The members of Bebeka Cooperative attach importance to sustainable business practices in the shipping industry. They are aware that fossil fuels and other products used by them have an impact on the environment. Bebeka Cooperative makes an important contribution to sustainable shipping by procuring fuels with the highest possible energy value. That’s why their members’ vessels can cover a longer distance on the same amount of fuel. In addition, harmful emissions will be reduced due to improved fuel combustion.
The transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources is in full swing. Bebeka advises their members on sustainable alternative fuels, for example in their monthly Energy Alternatives Report.
